The whole trilogy is amazing, creating a world so real I feel I am there. But most of this book doesn't contain such levity. Overall, this is a very readable biography and contextualizes its subject well, but readers used to modern biography style will miss the lack of source material and citations. Sandra Day O'Connor's essay on the Suspension of Habeas Corpus in clear layman's English is interesting and suggests that even in the direst situation that Lincoln only used it for military purposes and not to dispose of political enemies. I have to say that I found the descriptions of the chickens and their care and feeding to be fascinating. I adore this series and I'm still hoping there may be more books in the series. But what happens when Ashley has an agenda of her own.
